Representações sociais de não feministas sobre feminismo e família

Abstract

The general objective of this dissertation was to understand the Social Representations of non-feminists about feminism and family. Thereby, two studies were developed, both being qualitative empirical ones. In studies 1 and 2 were interviewed 11 people (same sample) self declared non feminist. The interviews were submitted to content analysis and interpreted from the Central Nucleus Theory, part of the Theory of Social Representations. Study 1 aimed to understand the social representations of non feminists about feminism. The results pointed to stigmas linked to feminisms, rigid conceptions about gender and the internet as the main means of access to the theme. They emphasized the presence of social representations linked to traditional moral values of gender that hinder changes in the conduct of women in society. Study 2 aimed to understand the social representations of non-feminists about family. The main results highlighted as CN of SR: idealization of the family and naturalization of conflicts, prevalence of rigid roles between men and women, change in the position occupied by women in society and in the family, threats to the position occupied by men, unequal social expectations regarding functions performed by men and women. Thus SR and relationships remain maintaining hierarchies and inequalities through resistances and remarks the contemporary changes in the arrangements and dynamics of families. The dissertation contributed to the understanding of how these conceptions are grounded and to whom they serve, revealing the maintenance of relations of power. Obstacles to questions and changes regarding the family environment are highlighted. It is pointed out the relevance of future studies, public policies and actions that contribute to the dissolution of inequities and oppressions that occur in private and family space. (CAPES)
